Digging Deep

Complex designs require complete understanding. When BA asked us to design an app to make life easier for pilots and cabin crew, we immersed ourselves in the company’s culture, met its people and hung around at Heathrow until we were fully on top of a tricky problem.

To Fly. To Serve

Quite simply, pre-flight briefings presented on reams of paper were time consuming and difficult to digest. The pilots and crew needed every bit of that information, but wanted it in a more convenient form.

An app with ‘first class’ design

Here was a real opportunity to make life simpler for pilots and cabin crew, but only if they were prepared to get on board (so to speak). Our app design had to be intuitive, easy to use and present a lot of information in an easily digestible way. We created bespoke iconography and used infographics to convey data clearly and highlight salient points.

Beautiful & Practical

The design worked, transforming the way cabin crew access pre-flight information. The app looks great, too. We commissioned photography of the British Airways First Class area and honed in on certain features to form interesting backgrounds for screens within the app.

On top of that, the designs operate under a range of lighting conditions, whether cabin or flight deck, night or day. BA isn’t quite a paper free airline, but we helped it on its way.
