James “Jamie” Clarke

Co-founder/Director
On graduating in ’95 from six years at art school, James’ first job was as a web designer, creating sites for a range of international brands.
Formerly Head of Design for MSN EMEA, he co-founded Thin Martian to build a digital creative agency with a better workplace philosophy than agencies he had experienced in the past. A highly experienced designer, James is an expert in user interface design, branding, graphic design and online campaign mechanics.
After more than ten years leading design teams, in 2009 James spent over a year as full-time CEO of Musicmetric (one of Thin Martian’s venture companies), leading the early stage business to successfully raise further venture finance and forming the current board of directors.
His love of typography started early, drawing and carving letterforms. He designed his first rudimentary font in his teens, based on Mesoamerican hieroglyphics, and now maintains the popular typography blog Type Worship.
James loves cycling, but mostly it’s just to and from the studio. He would like to find time to play more computer games, but doubts it’ll happen any time soon.
